Where Should Fallout 5 Take Place?

Fallout 4 was revealed a few weeks ago on June 3, and it's been non-stop Bethesda since then. The initial trailer confirmed that Boston would be the game's setting, and did a fantastic job of teasing a much larger gameplay reveal at E3 2015. Cut to a few weeks later, and Bethesda blew the doors off of Fallout 4 with a whole mess of story reveals, new gameplay systems (crafting!), and a mobile game that took the IGN office by storm.

Now obviously all eyes are on Fallout 4 leading up to its November 10th release, but our good friends at ThinkGeek wanted to get ahead of the curve. They polled over 800 people on where they wanted the next-next Fallout game to take place. They also wanted to see which platforms gamers were stoked to play the upcoming game on. Take a look:

The 11 Hardest Achievements in Video Games

When designed well, achievements are a fun away to show off your gaming skills to your friends and look at a game in a new way. Achievements like Master Chief Collection's Feet Firmly Planted (complete a Halo 1 level without jumping) or Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel's 360 No Scope (spin 360 degrees and get a no-scope sniper kill... while in the air) provide a perfect balance of challenge and replay value. They're a good way to wring more life out of your favorite games, or at least provide a little extra reward for going above and beyond.

But sometimes, achievements aren't fun little extras. Sometimes, a game's achievement list hates you, and everything you stand for. Sometimes, certain achievements seem to exist solely to mess with any OCD completionist unlucky enough to start in on a game before taking a close look at just what they'll have to go through to get 1000/1000 Gamerscore.

What Is 4K, Anyway?

At this year's CES, you couldn't go anywhere without running into 4K displays. LG, Sharp, Panasonic, Samsung, and Sony all featured 4K TVs as part of their press conferences; other companies like TCL and Haier had them spread so thickly over their booths, it almost appeared at first glance that 4K TVs were their only product at the show. PC monitor manufacturers also were on the bandwagon—at every appointment I had with monitor vendors, there was at least one if not several 4K monitors in each company's 2015 lineup.

Since then, mentions of 4K have been popping up everywhere, be it Vizio’s further lowering of 4K TV prices, support for it in games like Grand Theft Auto 5 and The Witcher 3, or cell phones that don’t really need the extra pixel density. So you might be asking: Do I need 4K? And, more importantly, what the heck is it, exactly?

Microsoft Gamescom Press Conference Details Announced

Microsoft has confirmed when its Gamescom 2015 press conference will take place, along with some of the titles that'll be on display.

The Gamescom 2015 Xbox briefing will take place on Tuesday, August 4 at 7am PT / 10am ET / 3pm GMT, and titles already confirmed for the show include Scalebound, Quantum Break and Crackdown.

While both Scalebound and Crackdown were revealed during Microsoft's E3 press conference last year, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer recently explained on Xbox Wire that Microsoft's "jam-packed lineup of games to show at E3" made it impossible for the company to give every upcoming Xbox One game "its well-deserved time in the spotlight." Therefore, Crackdown and Scalebound are joining Remedy's Quantum Break "front and center" at Gamescom in August, "along with new game reveals for both Xbox One and Windows 10."

Destiny: Why Bungie's MMO Shooter Is So Successful

With interest in Bungie's online first-person shooter still on the rise, Destiny's momentum is more comparable to an MMO than your usual shooter. Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg attributes this ongoing success to the strong cadence of carefully curated add-on content -- which is consciously different than that of Call of Duty -- that actively improves Destiny.

"A game like this requires a steady stream of content to keep people engaged and that’s core to this idea," Hirshberg told IGN at E3 2015. "That's what's been successful in keeping people engaged so far. We’ve had the right cadence to keep the game fresh and provide new challenges and new rewards. So that’s definitely the strategy."

Why Halo 5's Microtransactions Aren't Pay to Win

While gamers will be able to purchase REQ packs with actual money in Halo 5: Guardians, developer 343 Industries has systems in place to prevent the game's Warzone mode from being a pay-to-win experience.

Coping With Those Post-E3 Blues

E3 is done and dusted for another year, and the IGN UK team is feeling a bit depressed. Especially as we are loving Arkham Knight - the game scoring a whopping 9.2 on PS4 and Xbox One - but disappointed with the trouble concerning the PC version; a game so buggy that Warner has suspended sales and apologised to fans. So Chris, Luke and Rory kick off this week's podcast by discussing the drama surrounding the release as well as our feelings about the game.

There's a new Spider-Man in town, so talk turns to the casting of British youngster Tom Holland as the web-slinger, and the decision to let relative newcomer Jon Watts direct the next Spidey movie.

We're also loving zombies, FrightFest and the good stuff at E3, again, while we're shoving jet-lag, hoverboards, human centipedes and the cancellation of Hannibal.
